Whilst looking for inspiration we stumbled across some images of jewellery made with Mitsuro Hikime wax.

We liked the look of the textures that where produced and watched some videos of people using it.

We looked up a site that sells the wax as well as watching how to make it from scratch and decided to start with we would buy a quality wax to see how we got on with it.

We purchased enough to play with and some extra so that if we did like it we didn’t have to wait for the next batch.

Cutting the wax is probably the most difficult part, the wax blade gets stuck if you stop and the wax also reseals as the heat from the blade cools. (I got told, I was doing it wrong by the boss.

When I tried to explain that the blade got stuck in the wax, and it ain’t as easy as ya think. Any-who when the boss tried cutting the wax a few days later, guess who else broke a blade? Ha, told ya!)

Once you get the wax to a stretchy consistency you can start playing and shaping. We wrapped some masking tape around a mandrel and made some rings.

We have found that greaseproof paper is quite good to remove it easier.

At around April (2026), I decided to use some Mitsuro Hikime wax again and as it was fairly warm I just rubbed the wax for a while in my hands and it became stretchy quite easily.

I made some of the wax too warm and it was very sticky. I decided to see what I could do with it in this glue-like state and made a basic dragon like structure. I knew that if I tried to shape it anymore, I would be risking it changing shape too much.

I got the dragon cast and moulded so that I can add to it and get it looking better.
